The Best Beach Spots from Seminyak to Kuta, Bali, Indonesia

After 90 minutes in a taxi and only half way through the 23 mile trip to Tanah Lot, we create a new itinerary for the day.  We ask our driver to drop us off South of Batu Belig Beach at the popular Potato Head Beach Club. We begin a leisurely 4 mile walk along the beach from Seminyak to Kuta and have an oceanfront seat for a perfect sunset.

Potato Head Beach Club

Nearing the entrance to Potato Head Beach Club, our taxi is searched before we gather our belongings and walk to the security checkpoint. Our bags are thoroughly inspected and we are required to dispose of any plastic water bottles before entering.

We love the menu of fun Indonesian cocktails at Potato Head Beach Club.

Potato Head Beach Club Pool Bali

Potato Head has 3 restaurants, 3 bars, and an infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean. Beach and pool seating is open to both guests and outside visitors, but many of the chairs are reserved by those staying at the resort.

Alila Moments Beach Bar

We walk down the beach to the neighboring Alila Moments’ Beach Bar. Choosing a group of bean bags facing the ocean, we are welcomed with a happy hour menu (featuring a buy one get one free Moscow Mule), clean towels, and complimentary snacks.

Petitenget Beach

Continuing along the beach, we pass by crews setting up for the first Petitenget Arts & Spirit Festival at Petitenget Beach. 1,952 dancers will perform a Tari Tenun Dance at the festival. The number of dancers symbolizes the year the dance was created, 1952. Assuming the first year is a success, there are plans to have the festival become a permanent annual celebration.

sand bubbler
Tiny balls of sand can be found along the beaches of Bali. Tiny crabs, known as Sand Bubblers, filter sand through their mouth in search of food, leaving small, discarded sand balls behind.

La Plancha Beach Bar & Restaurant

Our next destination is on our list of must visit places while in Bali, La Plancha. Arriving before bean bags are set up, we enjoy drinks at the colorful sand bar. The restaurant brings Spanish decor and techniques of cooking on a hot, large metal plate from Spain to Indonesia.

Around 3:00pm, the beach in front of La Plancha begins transforming into a colorful, beanbag paradise, and we are one of the first to claim bean bags when seating opens at 4:00pm.

Wayan’s Bar

We continue our beach walk as the sun slowly begins to fade. Looking for a place to enjoy the sunset, we see 5 open bean bags at Wayan’s Bar on Legian Beach, and order cold Bintangs. Wayan, the owner of the bar, is a great host posing for a photo and serving us complimentary homemade, garlic roasted peanuts as we watch the most beautiful sunset we’ve ever seen.

Legian Beach

As the light on the beach becomes almost nonexistent, we leave Legian Beach to walk along the well-lit road towards Beachwalk Shopping Center. Hearing soft, acoustic music and smelling barbecued meat, we follow an illuminated sidewalk to Legian Beach Hotel’s Ocean Terrace Restaurant for dinner.

After dinner, we continue walking to the Beachwalk Shopping Center, a collection of upscale shopping. Looking for local, handmade souvenirs we venture outside of the shopping center to a nearby area of local artist shops. Later, we return to Beachwalk and easily find a taxi for a return trip to our resort.

Traveling Gingerbread Note: Our beach walk was inspired by the Lonely Planet Pocket Bali 4km Beach Walk: Batubelig to Pererenan Beach. We didn’t encounter any issues with high tide on our beach walk, but in some other areas in Bali the beach is hidden by the ocean until the afternoon.
