The college town of Morgantown, West Virginia is only a 90 minute drive from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Mountain State Brewing Company
- We visited Mountain State Brewing Company‘s Morgantown location, 1 of 4 taprooms throughout West Virginia and Maryland. A flight offers the 4 Mountain State Brewing Company beers available: Cold Trail blonde ale, Almost Heaven amber ale, Seneca Indian pale ale, and Miners Daughter oatmeal stout. The brewery has many guest taps and margarita flights. The large menu offers wood-fired flatbreads and sandwiches, appetizers, and salads. There is plenty of seating at the large bar and dining area, but it fills up quickly after a WVU game.
Morgantown Brewing Company
- The large Morgantown Brewing Company has 2 bars, a large outdoor deck, lots of seating, and a small menu. Flights aren’t offered, but 6 oz. pours are available of the 10 beers on draft or for $1 – $2 more, depending on the beer, upgrade to an 11 oz. We recommend After Swarm, a honey brown ale, and I’m Actually OK!, a peach guava sour.
Chestnut Brew Works
- The small tap room of Chestnut Brew Works has 10 beers on tap and a very small food selection. We recommend No Good Deed, a strawberry milkshake IPA, and Berry Me in West Virginia, a blonde ale.
Traveling Gingerbread Note: Half way between Chestnut Brew Works and Mountain State Brewery, we had the best nachos we’ve ever tasted at Black Bear Burritos. Toys are handed out in lieu of table numbers after placing an order at the walk up counter. There is also an extensive draft list including local brews.
Fork Cheat Winery
- Located along the Cheat River, Fork Cheat Winery focuses on sweeter fruit wines. Complimentary samples area available of any of the wines in stock. Browse the small shop of local pickles and relishes, moonshine jams and salsas, spirits, beeswax products, barbecue sauces, and clothing. We recommend the Mon Coux, a sweet red dessert wine with a chocolate finish.
